Cryptogemic Encephalopathy

Abstract
A clinical condition where headache is present without any definite causative history, finical signs or abnormal laboratory findings except CT was named tentatively as Crypto tic Encephalopathy (C.E.) .
Seventy two cases of C.E. was collected since the opening of the Youngnam University Hospital in May 1983 till now.
The age was most frequent in the 3rd. 4th and 5th decades in this order. Male female ratio was 1:4, 5.
EEG showed mostly theta waves(45 cases), mainly in scattered form and in a few diffuse bursts. Focal delta wave was seen in 9 cases.
Brain CT in 30 cases revealed cortical atrophy in 22 and cerebral infarction in 2 cases. Metabolic disorders in the brain due to vascularin sufficiency, nutritional deficiency and other unknown factors may result in biochemical abnormalities which causes biophysiological disturbances and when the process is advanced pathological changes and finally brain atrophy. Biochemical explanation of all the fundamental mechenaisms is expected in the future.
